EMDR consultation for therapists

EMDR fluency takes time and confidence

Most clinicians finish basic training knowing the protocol but feeling pretty shaky about running it. That's normal. EMDR is a strange modality, and fluency takes time to build.

What I see most often is fear of doing harm. You worry you'll flood someone, or send them home worse than they came in. So you hedge. You over-resource. You stop processing early, you steer around the targets that feel hot, and you talk when you could wait. The work doesn't land, and then you trust yourself even less the next time.

It's normal for new EMDR therapists to feel timid about deliberately triggering their clients. Once you've had a few wins, you'll see that temporary discomfort offers them a potential lifetime of relief. My job is to get you through the initial anxiety to confidence. We'll talk about your cases, your protocol questions, and the places you're stuck.

Confidence comes first. Fluency, specialization, and ability to tackle harder cases come with it.

I joined Recovery.com’s RECOVERable series to talk about defining trauma, trauma healing, and EMDR therapy. Watch Part 2.

Certification hours

I'm an EMDRIA Approved Consultant-in-Training™. EMDRIA accepts up to 15 of the 20 consultation hours required for certification from a Consultant-in-Training; the remaining 5 need to come from an EMDRIA Approved Consultant.

I can't provide the consultation hours that are part of basic training. If you've finished basic training, we're good to go.

This is consultation on your EMDR work. It isn't clinical supervision toward licensure.
