Our Approach to AI
Feelings about AI run strong. Some of our clients use it every day; others want nothing to do with it. Many people have real concerns about privacy, the environmental cost, or what it means to hand more of life over to a machine. Here is where we’ve drawn our line.
Where We Use AI
We use AI in our marketing. It helps us research what people search for when they’re looking for a therapist, and it helps us shape the words on this website so people can find us. It also helps us draft social posts and emails. A person on our team reviews and edits everything before it goes out.
We also use it for some behind-the-scenes business tasks that never involve client information, such as revenue analytics and keeping up with legal and ethical guidance for therapists.
Where We Keep It Human
AI never touches your protected health information. Nothing records or transcribes your sessions. Your therapist writes your notes themselves. AI tools could speed that up, and we’ve chosen not to use them.
AI also has no part in the work that needs a person: listening to you, making clinical decisions, and being with you in session. The relationship with your therapist is where the work happens, and we keep it between the two of you.
This is how we work with every client, in California and in Florida.
If You Want to Keep AI Out of Your Care
A few small steps help on your end. Before a session, unplug smart speakers or move them out of the room, since they can pick up more than you’d expect. Turn off any AI notetaker or meeting assistant on your own computer or phone. And if you talk with a chatbot about what’s going on in your life, know that those conversations aren’t protected the way therapy is. Privacy laws like HIPAA cover us; they generally don’t cover the AI apps you use on your own.
